AT&T unveiled a new early upgrade program for customers on an installment plan with the carrier. The program will allow mobile phone owners to trade in their phones up to three times a year.
Called “Next Up Anytime,” the early upgrade plan allows you to change your phone as soon as you’ve made a single $10/mo payment and will let you change your device up to three times per year.
The plan will become available on July 16th and replaces the company’s current Next Up plan, which runs for $6 a month. Customers who already have Next Up will be able to keep it, but new customers won’t be given the option. Next Up allows customers to trade in and upgrade their device as soon as they’ve paid off half of it.
With Next Up Anytime, customers can trade in their device after 33% of it has been paid off. They can swap the phone beforehand, but they won’t be able to take advantage of any upgrade promotions and will pay full price for their new device.
The new Next Up Anytime plan comes at a time when many AT&T customers are about to see an already slightly higher bill. Last week, the carrier announced raising rates for retired unlimited plans customers. Starting in August, AT&T customers on one of AT&T’s retired unlimited plans will see an increase of $10 on accounts with a single line of service and $20 on accounts with multiple lines.

That additional charge is going to come with a few improvements to the plan. Legacy unlimited plans will be getting added high-speed data and hotspot data on their accounts.
